ABOUT IAN
I'm a 31 year-old illustrator and animator, working freelance from my home in Okotoks,
south of Calgary, Alberta. I've been working for 12 years now, on both commercial
and independent projects, mainly in the mobile gaming industry. My main proficiency
is in 2D pixel art and conceptual work, though I'm also comfortable with traditional
media, particularly watercolours.
I graduated with honours from the Illustration
programme at the Ontario College of Art and Design, in 2002. During my time there I
also co-edited, contributed to, and published the OCAD annual comic compendium. I
still dabble in self-publishing comics and graphic stories from time to time.
Over the course of my career thus far I've worked for a plethora of clients, both on
a regular basis and freelance. Several years were spent working as Lead Artist for
a European mobile developer/publisher, where I was responsible for overseeing a staff
of about a dozen remote artists around the world.
In 2005 my work was chosen for the Ben Wicks Award, a national award for Canadian
cartoonists, and selected to illustrate a country-wide PSA booklet, Drug Facts for
Young People. Most recently I have been involved as sole artist on an XNA game
called Inferus, along with a gifted coder and musician. Inferus won 1st place in
Best Game on the Go, and 3rd in Best Game on Intel Graphics, in the 2009 Intel Level
Up Contest. Our game was judged by a panel of industry professionals, including Sid
Meier and Will Wright, and announced at GDC Austin. Look for updates on Inferus on
our blog on the links page, along with video and a playable demo.
I'm always on the lookout for interesting projects and opportunities, so if you like
my work feel free to contact me, via this link. You can
